Most common football scores and correct score betting
The most common football scores across thousands of matches, fair correct score odds, what any other score means and whether a score can be predicted.
Tipsters on X hardly ever post correct score picks, while the result and totals picks that BetBuddyRank grades run into the thousands: 167,880 picks in all. For this guide we counted regular-time scores in 28,265 senior football matches: below are the most common scores, their fair odds, what any other score means and whether a correct score can be predicted.
The most common score is 1-1: 10.6% of matches end that way. The ten most common regular-time scores:
| Score | Share of matches | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|
| 1-1 | 10.6% | 9.46 |
| 1-0 | 8.5% | 11.76 |
| 2-1 | 8.3% | 12.00 |
| 0-1 | 6.7% | 14.84 |
| 1-2 | 6.6% | 15.12 |
| 2-0 | 6.6% | 15.12 |
| 0-0 | 6.3% | 15.93 |
| 2-2 | 5.3% | 18.94 |
| 0-2 | 4.6% | 21.59 |
| 3-1 | 4.0% | 24.82 |
The five most common scores together cover 40.8% of matches. The rest are spread over dozens of scores, each of them rare.
Rows are home goals, columns away goals, and 4+ means four goals or more. Share of all 28,265 matches:
| Home / away | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 6.3% | 6.7% | 4.6% | 2.6% | 2.1% |
| 1 | 8.5% | 10.6% | 6.6% | 3.2% | 2.1% |
| 2 | 6.6% | 8.3% | 5.3% | 2.3% | 1.4% |
| 3 | 3.9% | 4.0% | 3.0% | 1.3% | 0.7% |
| 4+ | 3.5% | 3.4% | 1.9% | 0.8% | 0.4% |
Draws sit on the diagonal: 0-0 and 1-1 alone make up 16.8% of matches. More on level scores in the guide to draws in football, and on scores where both sides find the net in the guide to both teams to score.
If 1-1 happens in 10.6% of matches, its fair price in an average match is about 9.46. Sportsbooks pay less: a correct score market has dozens of outcomes, each carrying margin. Add up 1 / k over every score on the board and the total will be above 100%: the excess is the margin.
In a given match the chances differ: a strong favourite wins 2-0 and 3-0 more often, evenly matched teams draw 1-1 and 0-0 more often. The average table is a reference point, not a replacement for judging the match.
In a correct score market the sportsbook lists the likeliest scores and groups the rest into one outcome, any other score. Which scores it covers depends on the sportsbook’s board, so check the list before you bet.
In our data, matches where at least one team scores four goals or more make up 16.2%, a fair price of about 6.18. If the board lists every score up to 3-3, any other score wins about that often.
Not consistently: even the most common score misses in about nine matches out of ten. A correct score bet can only pay off when the odds beat the fair price for that particular match, not because a score feels likely.
- Estimate each team’s expected goals and see which scores are likelier in this match.
- Compare the sportsbook’s odds with the fair price from the table above.
- Do not build parlays out of correct scores: the chances multiply and drop to fractions of a percent.
What is the most common score in football?
In our data 1-1: 10.6% of senior football matches end that way. Next come 1-0 (8.5%) and 2-1 (8.3%).
What does any other score mean in betting?
It is the outcome where the sportsbook groups every score not listed on its board. If the board lists scores up to 3-3, any other score wins in about 16.2% of matches.
What are fair odds on a 0-0?
0-0 comes up in 6.3% of football matches, a fair price of about 15.93 in an average match.
Is correct score settled on 90 minutes?
Yes, in football a correct score bet is settled on regular time plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shootouts do not count.
Can you predict the correct score?
Not consistently: even the most common score happens in 10.6% of matches. Only a price above the fair one for that match makes the bet worthwhile.
